While we already have many excellent growers aligned with us, we are always looking for additional sources of superior specialty produce.

If you are a grower that has outstanding product and would like to be considered as a potential supplier partner - here are the factors that we consider in our supplier selection process:

• Quality of Product. We serve a market that insists on the highest end of the quality spectrum.

  • Growers must guarantee their product. We simply will not accept anything less than outstanding quality.

• Location. This is a consideration for two reasons:

  • We seek geographical dispersion to minimize negative weather impact. 

  • If you're not in the San Diego area, you must have the ability to get the product here quickly. Good air or refrigerated truck transportation must be available from your fields.

• Product Pricing. Both the product and transportation costs must be competitive with the market in general and our other suppliers in particular.

These are the various steps in the sequence we go through to "qualify" a new supplier:

1. An initial phone discussion on the points and expectations outlined above.
2. Receipt of some sample product to evaluate its quality.
3. Negotiation of pricing and potential volumes.
4. Several shipments of modest (but meaningful) quantities to test the transportation/delivery process and to continue validation of product quality.
5. Full volume shipments.
